‘Travel Within’ During This Pandemic

When Nolan Lewis walked on stage, I just knew it was going to be good. Nolan was introduced as, someone that has only been on paid vacation. He is currently an editor of a magazine researching for his next article in Goa when he was invited to the festival.

Nolan has had a diverse careers from being a flight attendant, a stripper & a taro card reader. His simple one line advice to his audience is, “Find a sellable skill and master it.”. In this instance, Nolan said he became a taro card reader.

Lockdown is a state of mind

What I loved most about his talk was the comparison he made with the lockdown. The shared feeling of being stuck in one place since the pandemic started. However midway through his talk he asked the audience, “have you ever stopped to wonder about the people in wheelchairs.” It was crazy, despite the initial frustration, we all had to find news way to keep ourselves entertained, educated and financially secure.

I couldn’t agree more with Nolan’s comparison with lockdown. I believe that our wellbeing is determined by your action. Often times we forget we have the power to manage our reactions despite the uncertainty of events that occur in our lives.

He then goes on to say that our travels are your personal story and it’s up to us to keep the spirit alive even through the lockdown. “So instead of travelling outwards to places how about we find new ways to keep ourselves alive, and try to travel inward through meditation.

Talk to Different People

Another great takeaway from his talk was, ‘Talk to the most unconventional people.’ He further goes on to say the real stories of the city lie with the drug dealers, strippers on the road and not from restaurant or beaches. He spoke with such admiring conviction.
