Woohoo welcome! I am super excited and pumped to have you here. This is my very first series, “#DigitalWellBeing” in collaboration with Neha, my friend from Indiahikes, now author of her very first book, “Living the change”, an architect by profession, volunteers as a hobby, travels around like a true nomad.
To know more about her check out her blog, *Spoiler Alert* called the UnknownIndian, *whoopsies*. Show some love, maybe she’ll forgive me!
The HOW of the series
We are currently stuck at home, or like Neha are stuck in the mountains; whatever it may, this pandemic doesn’t seem like it will leave us anytime soon. And sitting at home makes us spend more time in front of our phones/laptops, doesn’t it? And the more time we spend on Instagram or the news app, the more stressed many of us seem to get. But we simply can’t keep ourselves off the app even when we know this. So instead of having an unhealthy relationship with ourselves or digitally let’s make spending time at home less miserable, maybe even enjoyable. What say? Are you in?
Earlier last year when the pandemic struck, I was in a remote rural town of Uttarakhand. It was the end of winter, still pretty chilly, luckily I had some sunshine. I noticed how my well being was depleting. With the constant bombardment of covid news from news apps, indefinite state lockdowns, airports being closed, and being stuck in the loop of digital negativity, I had panic attacks, anxiety, to add to that, I was away from my friends and family.
It took me a good 6 months to establish and restore my well being and mental health. In that period, I learnt a lot. Now that I am back, recharged and rejuvenated, I’d like to share with you my learning.
The WHY of the Series
I asked myself one simple question before I began my journey, “If I could make myself feel this shit, I’m sure I can make myself feel better.” And oh boy was I right, I delved back online to find an answer. And there it was, sitting on Courersa a free online platform where anybody can learn and equip themselves with skills from Top Universities across the globe.
The Science of Well Being,
I discovered the ‘Science of well being’ taught by Yale professor Laurie Santos, which talked about the intentional ways we make ourselves feel bad and make ourselves feel better intentionally by creating better and more productive habits.
Where YOU come in
I am creating this series because I know not everyone has the time, nor may be interested in doing a whole course on well being. But many of you might want to read something positive in these times, that like I found the way back to my mental health through online courses, you might want to read short articles about what you can do to be happy digitally.
That’s where I come in, I want to share my valuable insights and my own experience of what contributes to well being which lead me to think
Why not ‘ Digital Well Being’
In this series *Disclaimer: I am no mental health expert, psychologist, therapist, nor is the information techincal *
When I got on a call with my old friend, Neha, she instantly loved the idea, got overwhelmed, but then she realized oh yeah, we kind of do need this. So both of us together have devised this series to help improve your ‘Digital well being’.
Stay tuned for our next post delving more into the concept of what’s behind the series and the very definition of well being.
“ If we reserve our joy for just these “important moments”, I wonder how often we actually let ourselves feel happiness?
An introduction to why I am done complaining
Hello you I’m so happy you are here, just ‘trying’ to figure out this thing called core values most people talk about but none of them really have any no idea about it.
